Butterfly Room

The Butterfly Room for 3-5 year olds

The Butterfly and Kookaburra rooms offer quality Kindergarten programs to children aged between 3 and 5 years. Both rooms have educators with a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood, and deliver a program following the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG).

The Program

Play is the essential medium through which young children learn. We are strong advocates for play based learning which allows children to organise and make sense of their social worlds, as they engage actively with people, objects and representations. Through observing the children’s needs and interests, we are able to provide a program that is responsive and relevant to each individual. Our programs are dynamic and flexible, extending children’s skills, abilities and knowledge in areas that are relevant to them.

The natural environment is an integral part of our program. The children are encouraged to explore and discover, respect and care for the native wildlife and the land on which they play.

We believe that risk is a vital component of children’s play, as it allows them to be challenged, to face uncertainty, to problem solve and to work with others to find a solution. All these qualities serve to expand children’s cognitive, physical and social-emotional abilities. Risk taking in play can include climbing trees in our back outdoor area, building with loose parts or navigating challenging obstacle courses.

Loose parts play incorporates natural objects and tactile materials into the environment that children can move about during play and exploration. Loose parts are versatile and open-ended and allow children to be creative, curious and imaginative. Loose parts in the learning environment encourages growth in all areas of development.
